Personal Training

Once upon a time, personal training was just for Hollywood actors and reality TV show participants. But Fernwood personal training is for every woman and it’s part of your essential toolkit for a healthy and lean body.

Fernwood Personal Training Program is designed to give women the best results in the shortest amount of time. It’s that simple, and nothing beats it. The sessions are 30 minutes, one-on-one, with a strength training focus that will give you an all-over workout. And your workout sessions are tailored to your specific needs and fitness goals.

Every six weeks, your personal trainer will give provide you with a new program so that you get the variety you need for effective workout over time – and you’ll never get bored.

So that we don’t waste time, your session will be designed to incorporate exercises that use multiple muscles at once, giving you more of a workout for your time and money.

The personal trainer’s job is to push you more than you would yourself – but between the two of you you’ll determine how much you want to be pushed. Just remember: the harder you work out, the better the results.

At Fernwood, you will only work with qualified personal trainers, so you’ll be safe in their hands. You’ll also find that they are a great bunch of women. Plus, at the end of your session, you’ll get a shoulder and neck massage – now that’s having your trainer work for you!

Weight Up (Feb 2007)

New research suggests that long-term weight training may help women’s bone and metabolic health by increasing production of the growth hormone. The hormone, produced by the pituitary gland, plays an important role in bone and muscle development in women, while men rely more on testosterone. Researchers at the University of Connecticut, USA, compared different weight-training regimens, each varying in intensity. They concluded that women got the most benefit with regard to muscle and bone strengthing when they included heavy weights in their resistance weights. So it’s time to up those weights, girls!

Your Waistline Does Matter

Getting fit and healthy has to be a priority for women in this increasingly fattening age. Women with a waistline in excess of 80cm are putting themselves at risk of preventable health problems such as Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease and even certain types of cancers. Alarmingly, between 20% and 25% of the population is obese and more than half is overweight.

Food Fact

In July 2006, regulations were introduced in Australia to boost mandatory levels of folic acid in bread. Folate reduces the risk of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, in unborn babies. Pregnant women are advised to take a supplement, but extra folate is now included in bread flour to ensure more mums-to-be increase their intake of this vital nutrient.
